The Barrow Neuroscience Research Center, is located on the campus of St. Joseph's Hospital & Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. It is known for its sophisticated equipment, facilities, and resources, and for its outstanding faculty and staff. Every year, the center attracts the best and brightest investigators from around the globe to conduct basic and clinical research in virtually all areas of neurology and neurosurgery. The achievements are many and represent major breakthroughs in many areas, including gene discovery, underlying mechanisms of neurological diseases, and the development of new surgical techniques such as hypothermic circulatory arrest, which is now used worldwide to treat complex aneurysms.
Basic and Clinical Research Programs Basic and clinical research programs include adult and pediatric neurology, neuropsychology, and neurosurgery. Neurobiology is a strong basic science department with a national and international reputation for its contributions to complex movements, spinal cord interaction, locomotion, brain plasticity, receptor chemistry, pain research, and visual perception. The Keller Center for Imaging Innovation likewise combines the expertise of the physicists, engineers, and radiologists that have led to such advances as motion-insensitive magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Along with its basic and clinical research efforts, Barrow's Neuroscience Research Center is lauded for its outstanding teaching programs and ongoing education for high school, college undergraduate and postgraduate students, and medical professionals.
